Benefits of application of second life electrical vehicle (EV) batteries

In the READY project a 130 kWh battery energy storage system will be demonstrated using 2nd life batteries. This deliverable explained the benefits and challenges of application of second life EV batteries. The four major lithium battery chemistries in connection with 2nd life use as well as some of the scientific challenges there are using 2nd life batteries were explained. Many of the history data needed for evaluating used 1st life batteries for use in 2nd life applications are already available in Lithium Balance commercially available battery management systems.
